- Short Project: Conceptualization |
1. Selecting a Topic: Finding the topic is the first step in research design |
2. Formulate the Thesis |
3. Choose the Types of Analyses |
4. Research & Write a Literature Review & Refine the Thesis |
5. Formulate Research Objectives ( ROs ) from the Types of Analysis ( TOA ) |
6. The Conceptualization of the topic is the process whereby specification & refinement of abstract concepts used in the research is accomplished |
In Conceptualization, the Researcher breaks the Topic down into its basic component & determines which items will be measured |
The purpose of research is often to show the relationship btwn 2 or more concepts |
Common Factors & Concepts |
Ideal Types |
There are THREE Key Issues to keep in mind as you design your research methodology that must be addressed in Conceptualization & other steps in the Research Design process |
a. What measuring device/ instrument will you use? |
b. What standards or Units of Analysis will you use? |
See Also: Units of Analysis |
c. How much info loss do you expect? |
Conceptualizing the topic through FOUR questions: |
a. Which concepts are most important to your topic? |
b. Which variables follow from these concepts? |
c. How are variables defined? |
d. What is the relationship among variables? ( C --> E, C's, E's, etc. ) |
e. What are the sources of your data? |
This question is addressed fully in the formulation of the Data Collection Strategy but most be considered here |
7. Choose the methodology / the Research Instrument |
8. Operationalization |
9. Formulate the Data Collection Strategy |
10. Obtain HIC Approval |
11. Perform a Pilot Study: the Senior Project is a Pilot Study & so no addition study will be required |
12. Collect Data utilizing efficient, effective & ethical methodological practices |
13. Prepare the Data for processing & analysis |
14. Process & Analyze Data |
15. Interpret & make Inferences about Data |
16. Write the Final Report |
17. Write Final HIC Report |
