The Agreement: The Intern, the Supervisor of the Intern
& the Professor shall read & agree to the following responsibilities
& will fill out the Internship Form at the end of this document. |

General Responsibilities
of the Intern
-
The Student will work or volunteer as an Intern in an organization, institution,
business, government agency, etc.
-
The Intern will work or volunteer for 2.66 hours per week for fifteen weeks
to earn one credit hour at UVaW (i.e., eight hours per week for fifteen
weeks for three credit hours or sixteen hours per week for six credit hours),
or an equivalency.

The Intern will earn no other credit from an academic institution for this
internship.

Interns are expected to conduct an independent study (reading, discussing,
photocopying, note taking, etc.) on a topic agreed on by the intern and
Prof. Withen. (Topic should be agreed on by the fifth week of the
internship)

Prof. Withen will provide instruction and direction to the Intern.

Interns are expected to conduct field work: interview, survey, compile
data, observe, participate, etc.

Interns are expected to regularly attend & actively participate/lead
meetings with Prof. Withen.

Interns are expected to compile a report/ term paper (three pages per credit
hour with one academic resource for each page). See the section on
the term paper below.

Interns are expected to keep a journal of their activities, and sociological
reflections (i.e., self-critique, general critique of the process, conflicts,
joys, etc.). The journal must be turned in at two week intervals.

Interns are expected to keep a calendar of their hours which will be signed
by their supervisor.

Interns will be evaluated by Prof. Withen and an organizational representative
on completion of these tasks. The grade for the course will be determined
by Prof. Withen.
Interns are to give a presentation of findings to the Social Science
Student Seminar Series or an equivalency.
