Some assignments require a Summary of the Data Section |
Before beginning a detailed analysis of the data, the writer
should briefly summarize the findings noting highlights, trends & surprises |
Summary of Results/Data should summarize the overall findings of the Data, if there is Data |
If no primary research was done, this section is omitted |
The Summary of the Results should provide:
1. an overview, 2. the highlights, 3. the most important findings, 4. a discussion of any significant anomalies / unexpected findings |
Include tables where necessary |
While it is not necessary to include all data,
tables should be used to summarize & organize |
Data may be included in an Appendix,
although it is not necessary to include all data anywhere in the paper |
The Summary of the Results/Data is used primarily when doing Primary Research |
Generally, library, aka Secondary Research, aka writing a Term Paper has little data analysis |
If the research is only secondary, the Summary of the Results/Data may be omitted | ||||||
However, Primary Research may be conducted in a library
through examination of census data, bureaucracy, etc., then data summary may be necessary |
This section should set the stage for the next Section: 5.4.

Section 5.4 Analysis / Discussion will go into greater depth on these same topics |
