I do not attend a United Methodist Church.  Can I still participate in the activities and ministries of the Wesley Foundation?

YES!  YES!  YES!  The Wesley Foundation is here for all students regardless of church affiliation.

I do not a attend any church.  Can I still participate in the activities and ministries of the Wesley Foundation?

Again, the answer is YES!  YES!  YES!  We know that there are many young people today who have either dropped out of church or have never attended church for various reasons.  You will not be made to feel any less a part of what we do or any less able to contribute to what we do if that is your situation.  We will just rejoice to have you with us and pray that what you find at Wesley will nourish your soul and help you to strenghten or, in some cases, even begin a life-long relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

What if I am of a different ethnic and/or religious background than most of the other students on campus?  Will I be welcomed and accepted at the Wesley Foundation?

YES, YOU WILL!.  Even though UVA-Wise is a small college and is not as diverse as many other colleges, the Wesley Foundation has been a place where persons of other ethnic groups and religious faiths have felt welcomed and accepted.  On most Tuesday nights, last year, one could look around the table and see several ethnic groups represented: Korean, African American, Chinese, Bolivian, Turkish, Indian, Vietnamese, Haitian, etc., and it was a beautiful site to behold!  Some students who come to Wesley are also of other faith backgrounds, such as Muslim or Hindu.  While we are a Christian organization and our activities do reflect that, we believe that one of the most faithful witnesses we can make is to extend Christ's love to all people and to see each person as a loved child of God.

I will be a freshmen athlete, and I will be required to attend Study Hall at 7:00 PM each night during my first semester on campus.  I see that your Tuesday and Wednesday evening activities start at 6:00.  Will we be through in time for me to get to Study Hall by 7:00 PM?

We make a special effort to end as close to 7:00 PM as possible during the Fall semester for that very reason.  However, arrangements have been made with several of the coaches that will allow you to stay if our activity should go past the 7:00 PM hour.  Each week, we will ask the freshmen athletes to sign out.  The coaches will then be sent an e-mail with the list of all freshmen athletes who attended and the time they left.  By doing this, you will not receive any disciplinary action for being late to Study Hall.  We hope to have this arrangement made with all coaches prior to school starting.
