I have the distinct honor of welcoming you to The University of Virginia's College at Wise. It is an exciting time to either begin or continue your education at UVa-Wise. Whether it is structural improvements or educational accomplishments, our college is quickly becoming a national leader in the liberal arts academic experience.
The time you spend on our campus will expose you to a variety of social and academic circles that will mold you into the most successful version of yourself. Yet, exposure to these conditions cannot be achieved by solitude in the residence halls or retreat to familiar high school communities. The most successful verision of you is created by attending a panel discussion on the local environment, by becoming a member or leading one of our campus organizations, by devoting yourself to a sports team or one of the music and art groups, or by performing community service or tutoring within an academic department. Albert Einstein said, "The only source of knowledge is experience." Your college experience should not be defined solely by tests, essays and text books. The academics will build your base, but you can facilitate an all-encompassing experience through interaction!
The Student Government Association and other organizations will provide you with opportunities to experience as much as possible during your time at UVa-Wise. Do not let them pass you by. I would like to wish you all the best throughout your time here at UVa-Wise and applaud you for taking this important step in your life.
