Arch eyes selling area coal mines
Arch Coal Inc. is considering the sale of its Pardee and
Lone Mountain coal facilities, the company has announced.
Another Arch facility in Pike County, Ky., Coal-Mac,
could be sold also. The three mine works and accompanying facilities employ
a combined 575 people.
The company is considering the sale to reduce debt and
to fit its strategy of operating larger-scale facilities, said Deck S.
Slone, Arch communications and public affairs director, in a Monday telephone
interview from the company's St. Louis, Mo. headquarters.
But company officials stress the sale is not a done deal
- only a possibility.
