Openness, honesty & deception
When deception is necessary, post-research debriefings must restore subject's understanding
Inform them as to why the deception was necessary
  Top
Freedom to decline
no ex credit, if all cannot participate
no other incentive that is not available to all
cannot use pwr of your position to influence subjects

Privacy /\ participation
You do not need to ensure privacy,
but it is a good idea
Most soc sci research deals w/ personally & publically sensitive subjects
therefore people are more likely to part if their privacy is ensured
  Top
Procedures for privacy
Plan ahead
Know exactly how you are going to ensure privacy
& then follow those procedures
  Top
Individual responsibility
YOU are responsible
Though as a student, the Prof & HIC is also somewhat responsible
Thus your best protection in preserving anonymity is to make the responses anonymous for you too
Thus you cannot slip up & disclose
You cannot bias the report by knowing who responded
You cannot be forced to disclose to others
You cannot accidentally disclose to others

Indi respon will not protect you from any harm that may come to the subj's

  Top
Admitting weaknesses
You are obligated to disclose any irregularities you uncovered while conducting the research
Most frequent problem is incomplete surveys
But other problems may crop up
