Project: The Reasons the US has no Class Consciousness

The notes have a discussion of why the US has little class consciousness, ie why most people are satisfied w/ the status quo, why most people do not work to change the system.  See the  5 reasons the US has no class consciousness below

1.  Give examples of each of the 5 reasons the US has no class consciousness (listed below).  If you can't think of an example for one, please say so

2.  How could some of the 5 reasons be changed so that, maybe, people would become aware of what's going on & organize for change?

3.  The decline of the Labor Movement directly parallels the decline of the middle class in the US.  Is there a connection here or is this merely two independent social trends?

4.  Feel free to challenge the entire premise of these discussion topics, ie that the US does have class consciousness.  Or possibly that we don't need class consciousness because we have the greatest country that has ever been & we should be satisfied w/ what we have, etc

There are 5 reasons the US has no class consciousness
    1.  The culture & ideology of the US is that of equal opportunity
    2.  The media & all social structures support the Horatio Alger Myth
    3.  The US has a relatively weak Labor Movement & no Labor Party
    4.  Education is tied to social class in the US
    5.  The US once had more structural mobility
(See the Review Notes for a more in depth discussion of these 5 reasons.)
