Report on Poverty w/ Bill Clinton
1. According to the program, how many people around
the world live on less than $1 a day? How many children worldwide die as
a result of poverty each year? How does poverty in the U.S. compare to
poverty in poor countries in Africa, East Asia, Latin America and the Asian
Pacific region?
2. What does it mean to be in the "poverty trap"? What
factors do you think contribute to the cycle of poverty in the United States?
3. According to the program, why is poverty less common
in U.S. cities than in rural America? Were you surprised to learn this
fact? Why or why not?
4. What is the Detroit Community Initiative? What is this
initiative doing to restore local neighborhoods? What roles do the government
and the local community play in this neighborhood restoration effort? Do
you think that this type of program would work in other U.S. cities? Why
