• A reductio ad absurdum proof has the following form.
  • First the premises of the argument are put forth.
  • Added is then the denial of the conclusion to the argument.
  • A contradiction is then deduced.
  • Since the premises and the denial of the conclusion imply a contradiction, the conclusion must be true if the premises are true.
