• A theory of forms, according to Parmenides, must describe the forms only in relation to themselves, not in relation to us.

• Likewise, the things in this world must be explained only in relation to one another, not in relation to the eternal forms.

• The forms themselves can be known only by the absolute form of knowledge, not by ourselves.
