Ancient & Medieval Philosophy -- David L. Rouse
Philo Judaeus (fl. 20 B.C.- 40 A.D.)
- Though not strictly a neo-Platonist, Philo is definitely part of the Alexanderian milieu out of which Plotinus arises. His writings are an attempt to harmonize Platonic philosophy and Hebrew scripture.
- One of the consequences of this harmonization is the via negativa, the negative way to a knowledge of God. Since nothing is like God, nothing can be positively predicated of God.
