• The city was eventually conquered by the Lydians under Croesus, who ruled 560-546 BCE.

• The Lydians were then conquered by the Persians under Cyrus the Great (r. 550-529).

• The Milesians rose up against the Persians as part of the Ionian Revolt(499-494).

• As a consequence, the city was destroyed by Darius the Great (r. 522-486).
