Ancient & Medieval Philosophy -- David L. Rouse
- Aristotle was born at Stagirus. He is often referred to as the Stagirite. In the late middle ages, he is referred to simply as “the philosopher.”
- His father, Nichomachus, was court physician to Amyntus, King of Macedonia. His father died while Aristotle was still a boy.
- At age 17, he joined Plato’s Academy in Athens, where he remained for 20 years, first as a student then as a lecturer.
