Bring low-income minority women into higher education

1. Project AWHEEL

This project applies theories of learning and theories of feminine personality development to the education of low-income, rural women who are transitioning from domestic violence and welfare.

2. Developing support groups to raise the self esteem of low-income Turkish women.

Dr. O'Quinn presenting research on the self-esteem of Turkish women at a Global Conference on Women's Study at the University of Istanbul in Turkey. Other women in the photo are from Siberia, Azerbyjian, Mongolia, Iran, and Turkey.

3. Explaining decision-making in higher education. Comparing what we actually do to what we say we do.

 

Impact of self silencing on learning

4. Studying how silencing the self impacts cognitive processing of new information, especially in an academic setting.

 

The impact of abuse and the recovery process

5. Using phenomenological methods to describe the impact of domestic violence and the ways in which women recover from such abuse.
