He entered the doctoral program at Virginia Tech in 1996 and continued to teach while he completed his doctoral studies. Jim received his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in 1999 and joined the faculty of The University of Virginia's College at Wise as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. Jim teaches several courses on a rotating schedule. His primary teaching duties include Biological Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Health Psychology, Human Sexuality, Human Neuropsychology, Introduction to Psychology, Psychology of Learning, Psychophysiology, Research Methods, Sensation and Perception, Social Psychology, Statistics, and supervision of Independent Studies and Research Practicums. Jim is the Director of The NeuroCognitive Sciences Laboratory and uses neuroimaging to pursue research interests in attention, inhibitory processes, hypnosis, imagery, lie detection, and pain control. Jim is involved in collaborative research with several laboratories in the U.S. and internationally. Research findings from the neuroCognitive Sciendes Laboratory have been presented by Jim and his students at local, regional, national and international conferences. Membership:
