Bio

I obtained my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of the West Indies, Mona campus in Kingston, Jamaica. My graduate work was in Inorganic Chemistry focusing on reaction mechanisms. I did my postdoctoral work at Texas A&M University, College Station, in organometallic chemistry. While my background is in inorganic chemistry, I also teach a Medicinal Chemistry course as well as Environmental Chemistry.

My research interests are (in general) broadly defined. I am interested in coordination as well as organometallic chemistry. However my current focus is bioinorganic chemistry, specifically the anti-neoplastic and antimicrobial properties of organometallic and inorganic compounds. I define a second (relatively dormant) area of interest as Inorganic/Environmental Chemistry. This involves development of catalysts for use in environmentally benign solvents such as water and ionic liquids. Other areas of environmental focus: studying soil respiration and looking at its relationship with the carbon sequestration ability of soils. I am also interested in pharmaceutical and personal products in the environment
