Overview:

Marketing is a business function which is vital for success in today’s competitive global economy. This course provides an introduction to marketing concepts as well as analyzing the decision problems encountered by marketing managers. The topics to be covered include marketing management, buyer behavior, product policy, pricing strategy, distribution, communications, sales promotion, and marketing research.

Required Text:

Marketing by Berkowitz, Kerin, Hartley & Rudelius, 6th ed., Irwin McGraw-Hill Publishing.

I reserve the right to add more grading categories (i.e. papers, fieldwork, presentations etc.) to this list and adjust the weights accordingly. You will be informed of any changes.

Testing:

Each test will cover at three chapters. I will do my best to announce a test but you must remember this rule and not act surprise when a test comes along. I will try to allow at least a day or two for you to prepare for a test, however, you are better off preparing as we go.

Important Note:

Course grades (A,B,C, etc) will be given based on the total points a student receives on all the grading criteria listed above. A student will receive feedback on his/her performance on an exam/quiz in the form of number of points only (e.g. 70 points out of 100). Final semester letter grades will be assigned using the following scale:

Expectations:

Attendance is expected at all class meetings. There will be no make-up for missed exams except in cases where you sort prior permission for absenting class or can show evidence of a real emergency.

All students are expected to abide by the Honor Code of the college. In all individual work (tests, quizzes, take home assignments etc.) students must pledge that they have not given, received or are aware of any cheating regarding the work in question. Anyone caught violating the Honor Code will be dealt with according to stipulations in the college catalog. Review the section on the Honor Court.
