As we enter the new millennium, tremendous challenges will confront the U.S. economy. Economic globalization, the federal deficit and government spending, health care costs, and environmental pollution are but a few of the major problems facing the economy.

In addition to this, there are a host of crucial issues facing state and local governments as well as individual issues such as managing household finances. An informed decision can be made only by defining the problem at hand, and identifying the benefits and costs of alternative policies identified.

Making informed decisions will require the nation to have a high degree of economic literacy. The Center for Economic Education is an important vehicle to promote economics in the community.
